What do people mean by "Danfests",
"Wing Dings", "Summer Smokers", etc.?
Just Steely names for casual fan meet-ups before or after Steely Danshow. Nothing fancy or elborate needed—just a minimum of a couple of people wanting to meet up.
The Danfest Registry is offered to assist Steely
Dan fans across the world meet-up. Sometime a couple of people meet for coffee or a drink; other times, people convene for friendship,
frolic and fun, to share the things we know and love with those of
our kind. The spirit of Danfests, Wing Dings, etc. have evolved ever since Steely Dan resumed touring in the mid 1990s.
How to Get to a Danfest in your
Area.
Click on the
concert event at the left for which you are interested in attending a
pre-or post-concert Danfest. You'll be taken to a web page with special
information telling you how to hook up with other Dan Fans for a Danfest.
BE SURE TO SIGN UP FOR THE MAILING LIST associated with
the particular Danfest you plan to attend. That way you can be in touch
with other Dan Fans who want to be in touch with you for a particular Danfest. The mail list is
especially useful for last minute information or buying, selling or
swapping tickets with true fans.
For the record, it should be noted
that the Danfests and Wing Dings are organized in an ad-hoc manner, independent
of Steely Dan, Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, as well as those who provide
this web site.
This is simply a calendar of sorts for Dan Fans with similar pre-
and post-show interests to touch base. It is provided as is, simply as
a tool for you to use. The party operating the site and even the Danfests themselved cannot be held responsible for the
activities as the actual Danfests. Also do not attend any Danfest expecting
to meet Becker or Fagen or band members.
After the show is over…
…stay in touch with the new Danfan friends you meet via the local
Dandom email lists for each Danfest. Many people develop great bonds and
frienships.
NEW for 2009
Danfests should be proposed to the Danfest email list for a particular area—not announced "fait accompli" in the Dandom Digest, the BlueBook or other forums—so that all have a democratic chance of offering opinions and options. This will foster the optimum Danfest experience. Additionally, special consideration and an extra vote of approval will be needed from those who have hosted previous Danfests in the same venue, region or area. Any preferences will be given to those who have previously hosted the same town's Danfest and then those who live locally in the area of the Danfest. Once the proposal is approved via the general consensus of the local Dandom/Danfest email list, then the event will be considered as approved as a Danfest and listed in the directory. This is to allow all to have a voice in the planning.
There is an exception to this: If it is within seven days of a show and there are no discussions about a fan meet-up on the associated Danfest email list, then someone can simply jump in and start making plans. But those plans MUST be announced and developed via the associated local Dandom/Danfest email list.
