hello steely denizens of the evergreen state &/or the
emerald city...
i am, in case you don't know, living far northwest of
you now, on samish island, & am overlooking a gor-
geous bay that leads directly to the san juans. this
allows me to get to the north cascades quickly, as
i am a fiendish hiker & canoeist.
what you don't know is that i won't be there for the
concert. of course, it's largely a problem with money.
i just can't afford the gasoline, round-trip.
also, i've been away from home perhaps too much
lately--a lot of absence in september. but for those
of you who are my pals down there, i want to say a
coupla things.
first, i made the most arduous & punishing hike of my
life, to monogram lake & back on the 25th & 26th of
september. i took a few photos & posted them
HERE<http://picasaweb.google.com/DDeRooy/MONOGRAMLAKELOOKOUTLOOKOUT09252009?authkey=Gv1sRgCLLuzPa9_57TXw#>
but before that, i tried to go hiking up sourdough, to the
lookout up there. i drove up to the trailhead to spend
the night & start this difficult hike at first light.
unfortunately, i tipped over my coffee press & the boiling
water burned my left ankle & foot so badly, i had to go
by ambulance to the hospital. i spent two weeks in
bed & have a large purple scar. i guess i'm only going to
be wearing black stockings now.
fortunately, i've healed up for the most part & the wound
did not prohibit my ability to go hiking, finally, for the
first time all summer.
anyone who wants to know more or read about the hike,
email me direct.
have a supremo time,
dianeDianeDIANE
