This is an experiment.
Can I tell you more? Like I said yesterday in the Digest: No!!! It's an EXPERIMENT!
One thing; there's much more to running a GB than what you see here. Appreciate that. Do I want St. Al's so called "Yellow one" to go away? NO! This is an EXPERIMENT!

You ask - "Is putting into question, showing disagreement synonymous with flaming?" Well, it's quite obvious that you post to The Bunion Tree Guestbook, funny thing is, I don't remember your name there. Now wouldn't that make you "anonymous" on this here board? And I wouldn't call your accusation that Hoops "snatch(ed) it away w/o any remorse or second thought" a disagreement, I mean, with what are you disagreeing? No, no disagreement there, just an old-fashioned flame.
Now, this post here, this is a post showing disagreement. You see, you write something absurd, and I'm replying by showing disagreement. Look it up, punk. At the very least, now we know YOU have motives to perform the dirty deeds (hint hint). I guess this is all YOU got. Please go back to the jaundiced board and leave this one to the professionals.
MOD - Fave SD track? How about Dr. Wu or anything off of "Toulouse Street".
Professor McCann - Is my post going to be removed? Let's see how it measured up to your strict guidelines:
1. Real identity and email address. YEP
2. Penis art. NONE
3. Wayne Krantz's phone number. NOPE
4. The URL to a site with bootlegs. NO [but you can get some great Manassas vids on Broberg's site via Steelydan.com]

and speaking of SNL: has anyone noticed how much the acoustics have improved on the set in recent years? i can tell a big difference in the sound quality, though i don't know whether to attribute it to better recording technology or the structure itself. any thoughts?

And Hey, Pete. Are you the guy on the SD special on that Liberal network - sayin the musicians hate the Dan? Screw that boy!! MOD happens to know Gus Mahler who used to play with them and they still go drinking with him all the time!!! He is a hoot. So…

"Ha!" they laugh, at their counting house computers, "That Mc is stoking the star maker machinery - fueling our cash train! Let's toss him another Krispy Kreme like the fetiparously fetid - Doodoo Against Nature."
They played the game - accolaides. How about some music!
Hey, MOD was very close to having a restraining order on his butt this week. Is that cool or what?
Something to make the kiddies happy on this fine summer day: play "Tomorrow's Girls" and "And Your Bird Can Sing" (from the anthology, if possible) back-to-back.repeat.

As a GB semi-regular and a Digest subscriber I just HAD to put my tuppence worth in.
I think this is a good idea as an alternative to both the GB and the newsgroup, but I sincerely hope it doesn't become an organ for 'dissing' the GB.
It might be going through a 'dodgy' patch at present, but it seems a fairly fluid place, and will change to a different mode soon. I'm sure this place will go through Ch-Ch Changes as well, and hopefully both places will be a safe haven of musical sanity for genuine Dan fans.
Also I hope that a fair bit of banter will be allowed. Speaking for myself, a bit of humourous 'hazing' was part of the magic of the GB.
I think you'd have to be fairly thin-skinned to view 95% of the GB's any other way.
Anyhoo, good luck with the exp., and look forward to hearing from a wider circle of 'dildonians'
Peace
Al

Somebody in Guestbook asked what other music Dan fans listen to: I have lots of Charlie Parker, Monk, 1970s Bowie, antedeluvian Kinks and Who, Bela Fleck, Kenny Rankin, 1970s punk from Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson (I super highly recommend his "Look Sharp" LP) Blondie...
So, will others please also get into answering, too? I'm curious.

Exactly how I feel about it all too. Ain't it wild? I follow the exact same principles of conduct. It's just too bad there are already people here who have acted just the opposite of what you wish for in the past and are likely to do it again. They've made private affairs public, humiliated others and today they're down there acting like victims. They know who they are. And best of luck dealing with them. I know *I*'m through with Buzz.

Nevertheless, I hope St. Al keeps the old guestbook the way it was. Vive la difference, no?
Mark - we missed you...a good Boston lunch at Durgin park, and next time I'm buying.

Nice to see so many familiar handles. I hope everyone's well. Good to hear from KD and YGK again. Hi Gina!
Midnite - I've got one of your cloud pictures as my wallpaper now. Great photos.
Well, I saw our young friend Marshall Mathers on the news this morning standing in front of a (female) judge. I believe he was being sentenced on weapons charges and man oh man did he look humble standing there wearing his suit and tie looking down at the table. What a tough guy. What a badass. What a joke.
Wish I had a video of me jumping up and down in front of the TV when SD grabbed that grammy away from him.
I think he ended up with a year's probation or something like that. If they'd locked him up he might end up with more to worry about than Elton John holding his hand!
Thoughts on anon flaming posters? All I can say is I've lived in the world for a fairly long time now and I don't think I'll ever really understand what motivates some people to act as they do. In many ways a number of people in society have an outlook on life that resembles a twisted form of pure tunnel-vision. An viewpoint that says: "I'm out for me and me alone. I don't give a damn about the needs of anyone else but me. My ideas and opinions are sacred documents of wisdom which should never be questioned. And I'm not going to hesitate to say anything I please to anyone I please and if they don't like it, well they can..." You know how the rest of it goes. I think it really just comes down to selfishness more than anything. I was brought up to respect other people's feelings and settle your disputes in private. Seems like a logical way to behave as a human being.

Great Guestbook. It's really wonderful. I mean after all, you've had this thing up almost a week and no posts from that guy from Sweden calling people names. I like that.
jk~ I remember seeing an interview with David Crosby a few years ago. When asked about his sons (James) reaction to his fathers music he said something like... "he's good, but he's no Steely Dan" I became a fan of CPR right then and there!
Mark~ Zoom sounds great and yes, I believe Jeff Lynn has the same management company SD had the last few years. My buddy told me that Jeff also produced Rosie's next record and has been dating her for a while now. Lucky guy!
Take Care everybody and I'll be back soon!

I'm surprised no one has brought up the passing of Jack Lemmon. Something about Jack connects with Steely Dan. Maybe it's that he was an actor who first hit his stride during the 50s and 60s, Donald and Walter's formative years, the years of the Beat. Or maybe it was his performances in movies as diverse as Days of Wine and Roses and Some Like It Hot to Glengary Glenn Ross and China Syndrome and Grumpy Old Men. Could it be that he was a hipster with a touch of geek? Or perhaps it was that he had a great commitment to artistic integrity like Steely Dan with nary a dud.
The studio wanted to reshoot the ending of Days of Wine and Roses and make it more upbeat. But Lemmon thought it would make it less authentic. So he holed up in Europe until after the studio couldn't wait any longer and had to release it. That character he plays in Glengary Glenn Ross is a Steely Dan character. Had he been a trifle younger, I think Lemmon would have been perfect in the Tomorrow's Girls video.
Thanks all for now. Wait one more thing, is the "experiment" here a test to see if a blue background will make us more restful?
Rob

Cool eggshell blue haven for the alternative way of posting. Good luck with the experiment. We miss you in yellow, but the kinder, gentler GB may be just what you and others are needing.

When I was down in Virginia, I heard a cut from the new ELO CD called "Zoom". It sounded damn good so I checked it out today. Rosie Vela is all over it, in fact she is the first person Jeff Lynne thanks. The second person on the list of thank you's is Craig Fruin. He's Donald and Walter's manger (or was). I was really surprized how good this CD is. Check it out if you get a chance.
Have a great weekend!

Luckless, I am so interested but can't make it. Am still enjoying my brother's Newport 1972 album. Dizzy Gillespie, Billy Eckstine, Curtis Mayfield, Bobby Tucker, Herbie Mann, Les McCann, Ralph MacDonald, Ed Rowe, B.B. King, Earl Turbinton and many many more. You just made me play that record again, girlfriend!
Mr. Hoops, congratulations!
As a long term lurker on the pale yellow GB I finally had the guts to post some there, even amidst a crowd where people feel like Two Moon Junctions and public lynchings more often than I cheated on my girlfriends! Don't mean to diss anyone. It's just there are so many sides to people and Steely Dan fans. And now there's a new guestbook. If even so experimental.
Where are all the beautiful people in need of Steely Dan musings??
Show yourselves!

An interesting concept I secured on the Kraan Fan Site at http://www.danbbs.dk/~m-bohn/kraan/gigs.html#mobile
(in the following text I just replaced Kraan by <your_favorite_band> you know what I mean.
Let me know what your cell phones play :-)
--------------------------------------
Your mobilephone, cellphone, handy, or whatever you call it, can play <your_favorite_band> tunes. Other <your_favorite_band> fans will detect you if it rings in public places, and you will know who belongs to the secret community of <your_favorite_band> enthusiast.
So spice up your life with a personal touch - show the world that you have taste :-)
One of Kraan's many enthusiast, Chrille, sent this:
" You have to give in every single note by using the buttons.
While giving in a note, the display shows the length of the notes.
The longer the note has to be, the longer time you have to push the button.
First number is the note (the second is the time).
# is for changing the octave
0 is pause
* is a half tone
Here follow two examples. you can also download MP3 examples at the URL mentioned!

I think having two guestbooks is getting you a little confused. You see, you are complementing Midnite Cruiser on his pictures, which is fine. The only thing is, that topic is being discussed on the "yellow" guestbook. In the future, it should be very easy to differentiate the "Yellow" GB from the "Blue" GB. Just remember, if you're reading about birds, it won't be on the "blue" GB.

Haven't checked my e-mail in a while so today I read the digest and thought that this "experimental digest" was an excellent idea. I took part in the SISGB a little less than frequently and so perhaps I will come 'round here a bit more often. The design is nice, it feels nice. that Dr. Dot picture numero 289 .. i could SWEAR i see traces of sparkling amusement in Donald's eyes and a very very succesful attempt to keep the poker face intact. but it took some effort, maybe it's just my imagination. aah, i'm almost certain ..
isn't this experimental GB just like having a second TV set upstairs or downstairs or in the kitchen even maybe?
this a GPGB? Guinea Pig Guest Book?
there's a yellow one, this a blue one .. what's left now is for someone to start a red one. who's afraid of Steely Dan?

Here's a caption to banty about for improvement:
"Either your nipple is really hard...or I have a knife in my back."
Regarding my having an "itchy finger:"
An email reader I use is "Eudora." The inventor of Eudora is an acquaintence of mine; very funny, subversive, sharp witted programmer named Steve Dorner. Eudora was sold to Qualcomm. Recently, Qualcomm added a "flame score" to Eudora. It seraches your messages for certain words and phrases and scores them as 1, 2 or 3 chilli peppers. "Fuck" yields three peppers. What it does flag is incredibly bizzare and, of course, never catches sarcasm or innuendo. (BTW: Dorner had nothing to do with this feature.) My office mates and I have a contest as to who can include the best insult and say the most offensive thing without triggering the "flame score."
While there is a conventional definition of moderation, to me good moderation isn't about saying or not saying certain words. Far from it. It's about encouraging interesting things to be said. Actually I like "enabler" or "faciliator"...what's in a name anyways? I'm not interested in deleting "fuck," things that you can or can't say, unless, of course, it's the Fisher-Price Guestbook. As Leonard Cohen says, "There's a blaze of light in every word" and Nurse Ratched (sp?) was always pleasant enough. That's what the Dan are about. There is something about a tone being set and that is by far the greatest form of moderation, where it actually becomes unnecessary...assuming that's possible.
That said, is it me or is the tone of "Nyquil groggieness?"
I've been asked why I don't post that much. Again, this is an experiment. I am observing and will issue an entertaining report eventually. Pretend I'm not here.

Again, great gumption by you in putting up this fantastical GB! No wonder you're so full of "brut and charisma"! It's an inspiration to us all!
Being a Rickie Lee Jones fan from her humble bebop beginnings, I sympathized with her when she cancelled that Chicago show because of the "L" tracks. That Lady casts a spell over her audience during her shows with a seeming mood and mysticism that you can slice with a knife. To have a train running through at a most ephemeral moment would be a travesty!
BTW, before she recorded her second album "Pirates", RLJ said in an interview that, for inspiration, she listened to "The Royal Scam" and the way Donald performed the lyrics. She said he sang "really soulful" on that album (meaning in the vein of "real (black)" soul - not that "blue-eyed (white) soul" typified by Hall and Oates).
And speaking of Joni Mitchell (and who isn't these days?), who can forget her cover story in Musician magazine from 1983 (the one also featuring the endearing article about Donald Fagen "going solo" on "The Nightfly", where they even interviewed Donald's band instructor "Chub" Chatham from high school, for Chrissake), where she allowed that she always admired Donald's sneering delivery singing style, and often tried to emulate it on her records, but coming from her it ended up sounding more like Donald Duck than Donald Fagen?
So eveyone's in tears about no Steely Dan tour this summer, but hey, c'mon, the guys need some time to themselves once in a while! Besides, I'm sure Libby's got some home improvement projects she'd like for Donald to get done and off of her "honey-do" list! And, as always, Walter does what he does.
Happy Danning, and Good Luck to All,
Linda Kaye from Chicago

Q... you say the sound on the tape is better in some places then you remember from actual show? That's pretty darn good considering how good it sounded at the venue! I forgot how Mr.Easton nailed Haitian Divorce! Talk box and all. Forget about Kings! He played it better then the record.
jk...Are you speaking in some kind of code? Is every song from that night on the tape? If so, it must be longer then four hours. Could one of you guys make me a copy? Thanks for the info!
Bob

Hoops this is fab dude.
My brother-in-law just got a junior job at one of the big LA studios that the Dan used to record at and I have him scoping the place. He's found a few things poking around , but most interesting, is that he says he's gotten wind that there may be some outtake gems hanging around...I'm sure it's a long shot, but it's fun to dream!
Now the Danfest VID - you've got to get it. As jk said, sure it ain't Warner Bros. production, but it does a great job of capturing the fun and passion of these fans and i think that's all that was intended! The sound? - in some places it's better than what I heard there live.
Anyway, I still shed a tear when i watch/hear Hank play "Kings" and "Hatian" - that alone makes the tape worthy.
Best to all in this All To Cool Multimedia Home,

When the Dandom Digest was started in 1993 and until 1999, I had to use University computers for it since the Internet wasn't ubiquitous like it was today. I was also part of a copyright committee there. So that's a lot of the reason why boots were hush-hush.
But the truth is, not only are such technically "illicit" recordings a reality, they are often key to fully understanding and appreciating the work of an artist. Any good Beatles book mentions and discusses their unreleased, unfinished recordings. Several of my colleagues are noted musicologists. Many of them recognize the value of such recordings and possess them. But do they distribute them in their classes? Of course not.
There's been a few times when I have helped record companies select bonus tracks for CD reissues. I found that those who produce these re-releases mostly consult the people and fans who are very familiar with and have the bootlegs even though they ironically don't sanction them.
One thing I don't get: some people can't talk about unreleased recordings without offering them like a fool screaming "doses!?" at a Grateful Dead show. Now that's not a cool thing.
Do I think Walter and Donald have boots of their favorite players? Most likely so--but they don't offer them on the net.
Hey, boots exist and should be talked about for the whole picture. But for your own benefit, fly low and be cool.

Wow...man, you never sleep. I thought I survived on bizarrely small amounts of shuteye, but you have so many different things going..how can you ever find time for them all...and have a job!
Thank you so much for this forum. ALthough I am sort of used to the old GB, I do understand why you've taken on this experiment (all too well, believe me!) and I appreciate it. I will probably frequent both this and St. Al's GB, just to keep up with everything, but I am already thrilled to see some familiar faces (Moonflower, Floridavid, Jim#, Oleander, Thelonious...) here.
NOw I have a third (ack!) outlet for the long overdue review of the Steely Damned tape shot during the HOF Danfest...don't worry, Pete...it's coming! What with my relocation, I got a little behind on my obligations..but beware, I promised to be brutally honest, so I am sharpening my wits and my proverbial pencil in preparation.
Looking forward to the upcoming debates, discussions, and other Dannish things.

Bob Ross here from the digest. Thanks for the new guestbook.
I don't know if you remember me, but I'm the guy who bought you that shot of vodka at the upstairs bar at Le Bar Bat during the Steely Damned show. You were really busy holding court, so I'm not sure if you remember me. I wanted to thank you for helping to put together those great nights. I missed the Chuck Rainey show but heard it was a lot of fun. I've written Pete Fogel asking about the video that was being shot on Friday night. I wanted to get my hands on a copy. I haven't heard back from him and was wondering if you knew when and if copies would be available. I never thought in a million years I would have enjoyed a cover band so much! I would love to get that video to remember that evening. Please let me know. Again, thanks for putting it together.

Thanks for again (!) trying something new on us. Hey, us deserves it, or so I hope (.. ;-> ..). I completely agree with you and others who already offered their opinions here, there's a place to exchange SD related stuff and there's a place for some more (unrelated) and also for some fun - even if it's not always, er, good clean fun, so to speak. And I also think there's a (taste and/or intelligence) limit to what I can bear to read in a posting area.
lovely bunnies you got .. Post And/Or Die -> LOL!!! ... I hope we'll have more of the "regulars" as well as new folks signing this [experiment]
Thank you for another piece of sleep you trade ... Reinhard aka George.

Moonflower--good gracious, girl, you are reason enough to come here. Sweetly said.
How about cross-posting to here and the Original GB?
Can we of minimal memory toggle back & forth between the page & the post?
Mark--Loved the grad vid. Any news on a Berklee cd? I would LOVE to see those young people perform on something a little larger than a postage stamp.

Nice job! Good to have a moderated forum as an annex of the Digest, although I find the guestbook "format" (unthreaded and one long page) unwieldy (but then I always have).
Nice job also on the RFD and new GB page designs. Did you scan the vintage appliances out of an old Sears catalog or something? Anyhow, good work!

Thanks for (once again) going above and beyond!
May I start the first SD-related thread?
Just picked up the new CD by CPR (Crosby Pevar Raymond) called "Just Like Gravity". Last year's CD had the very Dan-ish sounding tune
called "Morrison". The new single off this CD is called "Katie Did".
Hmmmmmmm. There's some really nice stuff on this CD. Including some great Larry Carlton styled riffs by James Pevar in a couple of the tunes.
If possible, check it out.
Many, many thanks Hoops for providing this service to the SD community.

Nice GB! Even the light blue back ground is nice and calm on the eyes which might even mellow some people out.
Dr Mu, As far as new lineup for another tour. It seems that D&W love Tom Barney and Cornilus Bumpus. I think the drum chair is extremely important to them and if Rickey Lawson isn't available that might be the most difficult positions to fill. I bet (if they tour again) their will be a different guitarist. As good has Herington was/is so was Drew Zing and George Wadenius. I think the boys just like a change in that spot. I think they get bored easily. The background singers were really good. I like 3 singers better then the '96 tour when they had 2.

Wow, another giant leap forward , and I, suddenly am not hesitant to post on your new 'book'! What a free feeling. It is wonderfful to see dreams come to life, and I congratulate you, Jim. The thing that seems important to me is that we humans are not all alike, and we do have individual opinions and ideas- here's a virtual toast to the differences in us all!
Steely Dan has taken on a whole new meaning to me during the past couple of years. I loved the band and it's music 25 years ago, although I never listened to them live. All that changed two years ago, when I was fortunate enough to have a friend take me along for a big New York ride with SD. You could have knocked me over with a feather when I found myself grooving to the band, live, playing 'Do It Again'....I love the intro to that song totally! It takes me back in time, to a secret place long ago. I was hooked to SD again....still. I will never forget last year and going to the concerts, and Pete and Sheri, the wonderful people I met along the way and Hoops, the ever-present guru and gentleman to us all.
Good luck, Hoopsie dear, for you are definitely growing into your life and your passions now.
Peace and Love to us all,
Moonflower

Hey Hoops, what web-design program do you use for your Mac? Reply by e-mail would be most appropriate. I'm amazed at what you have accomplished in your spare time...
OK, a thread or question: Do you think D&W will stick with the same line-up for the Next One? Any rumors or even actual information on the progress of such? Discuss amongst yahselves. Like buttah...

Same people who took time to write on Bathroom walls in High School?
Good Luck here. And as your friend and, a True Steely Dan Fan I'll continue to check out all the Steely Info sites as usual. David

time post only) and Robin! (so nice I get to say hi and thanks to you for the past year, you were one of the first to welcome me on the GB) ...
I am subscribed to the Digest and it's been additional reading next to my activity on St. Al's GB. Good luck with your guestbook, Hoops, I read your comment on why you decided to have this guestbook up in the air. It happens so that for exactly the same reasons I felt a definite change, albeit (one of St.Al's words) into the opposite direction, me being flamed because I feel Rickie Lee Jones should not need to bear an audience where people are rude or loud if she plays a quiet song on the piano ... I believe there was room for a normal discussion and different point of views but unfortunately there were cheap shots as well which made me wonder what on earth I was doing writing on a forum where people apparently don't care or refuse to have an open mind. I remember I compared Steely Dan being intangible and Rickie Lee closer to her fans and if my words were the words you thought of as flaming, that's not how they were meant to be plus I don't recall any lashing in that particular discussion on my part, Hoops!
We all feel strong about music which is a major part of our lives. To you it's Steely Dan and you devote a great deal of your time to create a venue where fans can come together and exchange information. To me it's both Steely Dan ánd Rickie Lee Jones and because of that thread which I started because Rickie was flamed herself on her own board, I realized I wanted to spend more time in her corner and that simply feels good. Recently a few RLJ-fans have created a new chat option where fans can come together and talk about things they share, besides the music of RLJ ofcourse. Too bad we have to do it like we do, but it's a club where one has to sign up for and the founders can refuse or "delete" anyone who misbehaves, or as they say in the cyberworld "flames" ... Flamers come out of the blue, for no apparent reason at all and behave like cockroaches of the worst kind.
When there wasn't anything Dannish to say, posts on the GB took a turn of their own and that's partially what I liked about the forum. Because I also figured it was a place where all kinds of people could sign in, from different countries and cultures with the same taste in music, or one common ground, namely Steely Dan. It would also be great to learn about differences in opinion and it is supposed to be a crowd of intelligent open minded people.
When people post regularly, they get to know eachother. When people write personal things or experiences (like I did) it's because you feel you can, being among friends or kindred souls. Some of us aren't that eloquent but perhaps feel the same way, if even not able to express in words. I often read thing I thought of as exactly what I felt or thought and someone else put it in words for me and others to read. That is great!
Being serious is one thing, being funny another if not a big part of the picture. I liked and like the funny things on the GB. Lots of creative writing and jokes perhaps in the spirit of WB & DF who bring all those people together in the first place.
And there's the music. Not just Steely Dan, but also anything related. From rock to jazz and the swirling seventies.
The people on the rather young and new RLJ board take genuine interest in one another and the variety in lives. They take interest in people, the world and what happens outside of their own white picket fences, (should they have them btw). There's artists, writers, scientists and housewives. The gentle way of communication is soo different than what happened on the GB and even though I believe discussion may be tinged with emotion and ditto words involved, it's not far off to assume there is this dresscode of reason and common sense and a certain courtesy.
You are right to mention one's own responsibility, on a forum where no moderator has any influence or saying on what is being posted. But now I'm not surprised so many other forums have editors and moderators after all ...
So you're off with a guestbook of your own, like Miz Ducky has her own Salon and Diane a place with a sign "no trolls allowed" ... It is life in a way ... people grow out and in of things all the time!
Thanks for listening, take care!
Regards, Gina

Congratulations on your new guestbook! I've been a long time subscriber to the digest and appreciate all of your hard work. I love the idea of a forum where "real" Dan fans can post without being flamed. Thank you for all of your hard work and I wish you the best of luck. You're a TRUE sincere Dan fan!

When the "Sign In Stranger" Guestbook came on the Dan Fan scene in the Mid-1990s, St Al revolutionized the way we Dan Fans on the Internet communicate. Besides offering us all the instant gratification of sharing our thoughts right away, the SIS Guestbook has been a forum adored by the hardest-core of Danfans and even Steely Dan themselves have enjoyed it a great deal. Indeed, for many years it became the town center, the after-work happy hour for us Dan Fans. For a long time, my web browser started up with the SIS Guestbook as my homepage.
However, in the past half of year, I feel a really nasty tone has taken it over. Pat has had the balls to maintain the tradition of an "anything goes" modus operandi and I think it's been a very fascinating reflection of our community, for better or worse. But unfortunately, a certain group of people have not had the balls to act responsibly with what they post, nor do they have the backbone to post with a real identity or email address.
About two months ago, something happened on the GB that made me unable to post there anymore. Please, bash people for their silly opinions on Steely Dan, but personal attacks are another thing. That's not why we hang in Steely Dan circles on the net. Unfortunately, I am not the only long-timer who feels this way. I don't recall posting anything else other than a bit about Rickie Lee Jones cancelling a concert after complaining about the "L" trains running too close to a concert venue in Chicago. And then I thought I was going to get flamed for posting it.
At the same time, Pat holds steadfastly to the position that all posts, anon and identified alike, penis ASCII-art and all must appear. I admire his resolve, but I respectfully disagree. Sure, Steely Dan is named after a fake penis, and ASCII art penises might be appropriate as a rebuttal to a Steely Dan debate, but, frankly, I've had enough of so many pointless penises and so have other long-time regulars. It's great to have someone mix things up a bit now and then but at least several of us miss having a GB where we can comfortably talk about Steely Dan.
I know Pat has been too busy with his family, his MSCE training and his new Internet radio station to stay in touch with me, so I would like to go ahead with an experiment. For a few weeks, myself and a few others would like to experiment with a GB that moderates anonymous posts.
This experimental Guestbook will test the following guidelines:
* Items posted without a valid Email address MAY be removed from the "Experimental Guestbook" at the discretion and consensus of the facilitator(s). It is recognized that some anonymous posts will be very positive contributions to Dandom and can only appear anonymously: these will stay. But anonymous penises, attacks, etc. will be deleted.
* Items violating the rights and/or privacy of Steely Dan, their associates and others are prohibited. Example: Giving out a private phone number' leaving a URL to a bootleg recording, etc.
* Posts can only feature HTML codes and hyperlinks by request. In the event you feel an html code (like a hyperlink) will benefit readers, please email the facilitator(s) with your request.
* Other reasonable rules and interpretations thereof made up as the facilitator(s) go along.
We'll see how this experiment goes after a month and then maybe some adjustments can be made in one place or another. Or at the very least we will know that complete anonymity, attacks and all are necessary for a successful guestbook. Frankly, I am not so sure this experiment will be a success, but I think it is worth a try. I think we will learn a lot and those of who are critic will at least be satisfied one way or another or another...
